Rick Hurt has two Bachelor degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Geology, and a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was hired as a research engineer for the Center of Energy Research in August of 2005. He is conducting research in solar energy and hydrogen. Other projects include work on Dish-Stirling, concentrating photovoltaics, solar troughs, fuel cells, and energy efficient homes.
